Position Overview
We are looking for a sales Manager to lead and grow our sales operations in Colombo. This role requires a hands-on leader who can set clear goals, hold teams accountable, and deliver sustainable revenue growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing strategic sales plans, managing the performance of the sales team, and cultivating strong relationships with clients and partners.

This is a senior role with direct influence over the company’s market position in Colombo and surrounding regions. We expect the person in this role to understand local market dynamics, apply structured sales management practices, and consistently deliver on targets.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sales plan aligned with company goals.
  • Set quarterly and annual targets for individual team members and the department as a whole.
  • Monitor pipeline development and forecast revenue with accuracy.
  • Identify market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activity to inform strategy.

Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of sales executives, providing direction, coaching, and support.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to review performance and offer feedback.
  • Address performance issues in a timely, constructive manner.
  • Facilitate training and development to build skills within the team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, and customer focus.

Client Relationship Management

  • Oversee the acquisition of new customers while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
  • Meet regularly with key accounts to understand their evolving needs and expectations.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for major customer negotiations and issue escalations.

Operational Oversight

  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including revenue, customer retention, and sales activity.
  • Use CRM tools effectively to manage sales activities, track leads, and measure performance.
  • Collaborate with marketing, finance, and operations teams to align activities and improve overall execution.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, pricing guidelines, and contractual standards.

Market Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and market segments.
  • Represent the company at industry events, networking functions, and client meetings.
  • Gather feedback from the field to refine product offerings and value propositions.
  • Lead or participate in the proposal development process for new business.

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive sales experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets in a competitive market.
  • Experience managing sales teams in the Colombo region or similar urban market.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the [industry-specific, e.g., FMCG, telecommunications, software, etc.] sector.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (MBA or equivalent) are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of CRM platforms such as Salesforce or Zoho.
  • Familiarity with local business regulations, tender processes, and procurement procedures.

Work Environment and Expectations

  • This position is based in Colombo, with occasional travel required within the region.
  • The role involves field work, client visits, and time in the office for reporting and coordination.
  • Normal business hours apply, but flexibility is expected to meet client and business demands.
  • The Sales Manager will report directly to the Head of Sales or Country Manager.

Performance Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:
