The Role & Responsibilities

As a Bank Reconciliation Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of Abans’ financial data. Your daily work will support smooth financial operations, compliance with internal policies, and transparency in financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations in line with company policies and financial timelines. You will ensure that all transactions are matched, balanced, and documented, leaving no room for discrepancies.
  • Record, verify, and reconcile all bank transactions with a high level of accuracy. This includes monitoring inflows, outflows, and transfers across multiple accounts.
  • Investigate variances and discrepancies by liaising with internal departments and external banks. You will be expected to identify root causes quickly and work toward timely resolution.
  • Prepare reconciliation reports for management, escalating unresolved items to ensure corrective action is taken without delay.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and recognized financial reporting standards.
  • Support financial closing activities at the end of each month and financial year, contributing to accurate and reliable reporting.
  • Maintain clear documentation of reconciliation processes for easy reference during audits and management reviews.
  • Assist in process improvements by recommending and implementing solutions that enhance reconciliation and reporting efficiency.

By performing these responsibilities, you will directly support Abans’ reputation for financial discipline and operational excellence.

Qualifications

To thrive in this role, candidates should possess both technical expertise and a strong understanding of financial practices.

  • Educational Background: A basic financial qualification such as AAT or CA Intermediate Level is required. This provides the foundation needed to understand accounting principles and reconciliation procedures.
  • Experience with SAP: At least 1 year of hands-on experience in SAP, specifically in bank reconciliations, is essential. Familiarity with ERP systems will allow you to manage transactions more effectively.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Principles: A solid understanding of accounting processes, financial controls, and reconciliation practices will help you identify and resolve variances quickly.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Financial Tools: Strong spreadsheet skills will be crucial for managing large data sets, creating pivot tables, and generating reports.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: You must be able to interpret financial data, spot anomalies, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Clear communication with banks, colleagues, and management is vital to resolving discrepancies and ensuring smooth operations.
