Job Summary
As an Electrical Service Engineer at Hitachi Energy, you will support the installation, testing, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substations. Working closely with a Senior Technical Advisor and Senior Project Engineer, you will help ensure systems operate efficiently and safely while meeting Hitachi Energy’s rigorous quality and safety standards. This role offers hands-on exposure to complex substation projects within the transmission and distribution sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support on-site installation, commissioning, and testing of GIS equipment such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, busbars, CTs, and VTs, following technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and approved procedures under senior supervision.

  • Assist with SF₆ gas filling, pressure testing, leak checks, and continuous monitoring of gas density in switchgear compartments.

  • Contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of installation and service activities to ensure timely project delivery.

  • Prepare accurate service reports, maintenance records, test results, and other technical documentation, ensuring clear and timely submission to clients.

  • Develop and update as-built drawings in line with site modifications and final installations.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, and external suppliers.

  • Ensure strict compliance with applicable safety regulations, quality assurance processes, and company policies to reduce project risks and costs.

  • Adhere to all relevant industry standards and actively promote Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity in daily work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Electrical Service Engineer or in a similar role, ideally within the Transmission and Distribution segment.

  • Omani National (mandatory requirement).

  • Practical experience with electrical systems, switchgear, or substation installation and maintenance is highly advantageous.

  • Solid understanding of electrical layouts, schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.

  • Familiarity with mechanical installation tools, assembly equipment, and SF₆ gas handling systems.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.

  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel frequently to project sites within the Sultanate.

  • Knowledge of relevant safety practices and standards, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
