Role Overview

Time Out Market brings the best of the city’s food, culture, and community together under one roof. As Assistant General Manager, you play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional guest experiences while supporting the smooth, profitable operation of a high-volume food and beverage market.

Working closely with the Market General Manager, you will help lead daily operations, drive team performance, uphold brand standards, and contribute to strong financial and operational results. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong commercial awareness, a guest-first mindset, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, inspire, and retain diverse front-of-house, back-of-house, and support teams in a high-turnover hospitality environment

  • Support a positive team culture through effective communication, performance management, and conflict resolution

  • Oversee food and beverage operations, ensuring service excellence, quality consistency, and compliance with TOM standards

  • Monitor labor, food, and beverage costs while implementing strategies to improve margins and profitability

  • Analyze sales trends, cost data, and financial reports to support informed decision-making

  • Demonstrate strong P&L ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control initiatives

  • Collaborate with the General Manager on sales-driving initiatives, marketing promotions, and community engagement

  • Support succession planning, training programs, and ongoing development for all Market employees

  • Manage scheduling, payroll oversight, and staffing levels to meet operational and budgetary targets

  • Enforce operational policies, procedures, and brand standards consistently across teams

  • Lead by example during peak service, emergencies, or high-pressure situations

  • Ensure every guest receives outstanding service, promptly addressing feedback or concerns

  • Maintain effective communication with vendors and oversee professional vendor relationships on-site

  • Oversee inventory management, cost controls, and monthly inventory reconciliations

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, food hygiene, sanitation, and liquor laws

  • Monitor guest satisfaction across all touchpoints, including social media platforms

  • Collaborate with wider operations within the Oakridge Park development


What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership experience in hospitality, with a strong focus on food and beverage operations

  • Experience managing high-volume or multi-unit venues

  • Solid understanding of beverage programs, including menu design, costing, vendor agreements, and activations

  • Strong financial acumen with hands-on P&L, budgeting, and cost-management experience

  • Demonstrated success in hiring, training, and developing large operational teams

  • Proficiency with POS systems, scheduling tools, and inventory management software

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and people-management skills

  • Ability to adapt quickly and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment


Additional Duties

  • Contribute to annual budgeting and long-term financial planning

  • Attend required executive, divisional, and team meetings

  • Participate in community and promotional events

  • Use operational systems such as OpenTable, Microsoft Office, Tevalis, and other relevant platforms

  • Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive documents

  • Ensure a clean, organized, and professional work environment

  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the General Manager


General Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years

  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required Food Safety and Responsible Beverage certifications


Work Environment & Schedule

  • Combination of office and restaurant-based work environment

  • Moderate to occasionally high noise levels depending on guest volume

  • 5–25% local travel as required

  • Flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and public holidays
