The Role & Responsibilities

As a Junior Accountant, you will play an essential role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring smooth day-to-day accounting operations. This position will provide you with exposure to various aspects of financial management while allowing you to build your expertise in a supportive team environment.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing Daily Accounting Functions: Record journal entries, update general ledgers, and reconcile transactions to maintain accuracy across all accounts.
  • Supporting Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Handling Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, payments, and receipts in a timely manner while keeping precise records of all transactions.
  • Conducting Bank Reconciliations: Review and reconcile bank statements to identify discrepancies and ensure financial data accuracy.
  • Coordinating with Auditors: Work closely with internal teams and external auditors during financial audits, providing necessary documentation and clarifications.
  • Additional Finance Support: Carry out ad-hoc financial tasks and assist management in analyzing data for decision-making.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should bring both educational knowledge and practical experience in finance and accounting. Candidates with the following qualifications will be highly valued:

  • Educational Background: Part qualification in CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, CMA, or a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. This ensures you have the foundational knowledge needed to understand complex financial systems.
  • Work Experience: 1–2 years of experience in finance or accounting is preferred. Internship or training experience will also be considered, making this a suitable role for early-career professionals.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of MS Excel and experience using accounting software to manage records and reports efficiently.
  • Analytical Abilities: A sharp eye for detail and accuracy, with the ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and provide practical solutions.
  • Time Management: Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
