The Role & Responsibilities
The Manager / Senior Executive – Recovery plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the financial health of the organization by ensuring timely debt recovery while preserving valuable client relationships. Beyond collections, the position requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and leadership. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and Managing Overdue Accounts
Regularly review overdue accounts and follow up promptly with clients to ensure payments are made within agreed timelines. This includes identifying risk accounts early and implementing targeted follow-up strategies. - Developing and Implementing Recovery Strategies
Design effective recovery frameworks tailored to individual clients. This involves analyzing payment patterns, addressing root causes of non-payment, and adopting innovative collection approaches to minimize bad debt. - Negotiating Repayment Terms
Engage with clients in a professional and empathetic manner to negotiate repayment schedules or settlements. The goal is to secure commitments while maintaining goodwill, ensuring that client relationships are not compromised. - Maintaining Accurate Records
Document all recovery activities, payment plans, and correspondence with clients. Precise reporting enables transparency and facilitates data-driven decision-making within the recovery team. - Preparing Reports for Management
Provide regular updates to management on collection performance, emerging risks, and recommended interventions. These reports support senior leadership in shaping broader financial strategies. - Collaborating with Legal and Finance Teams
Work closely with internal departments to address escalated recovery cases that may require legal intervention, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company policies. - Mentoring Junior Staff
Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to junior executives, fostering professional growth and ensuring departmental targets are consistently achieved. - Ensuring Compliance
Oversee all recovery operations to ensure adherence to legal, ethical, and corporate standards, reinforcing the company’s reputation for integrity.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should bring a blend of technical expertise, industry knowledge, and interpersonal skills. The following qualifications are essential:
- Experience in Debt Recovery
A minimum of four years of proven experience in collections, recovery, or debt management, with a demonstrated track record of delivering results in challenging environments. - Technical Proficiency
Strong command of MS Excel for data analysis and reporting, along with experience using SAP or similar ERP systems to manage financial workflows. - Resilience Under Pressure
Ability to manage multiple accounts simultaneously, work under tight deadlines, and adapt to extended hours when necessary to meet recovery targets. - Multilingual Communication Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, enabling effective engagement with diverse clients across the country. - Negotiation and Persuasion Skills
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence debtors to meet repayment commitments while handling sensitive conversations tactfully. - Legal Knowledge
Familiarity with Sri Lankan debt recovery laws and legal procedures to ensure all actions are compliant and strategically sound. - Mobility and Flexibility
A valid riding license with readiness to conduct field visits when required, demonstrating a willingness to take hands-on responsibility. - Additional Advantage
Prior experience in project management will be considered an asset, particularly in managing large-scale recovery initiatives or system improvements.
