Clinical Instructor – Career and Technical Education

Introductory Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Instructor to join our Career and Technical Education program. This role is essential in guiding the next generation of nursing professionals through hands-on training in long-term care facilities. By combining your clinical expertise with a passion for teaching, you will play a pivotal role in preparing students to deliver exceptional care to elderly and chronically ill patients.

About the Company

Our Career and Technical Education division is committed to providing practical, career-oriented training that equips students with the skills they need to succeed in healthcare and other industries. With a strong focus on experiential learning, we partner with respected long-term care facilities in Utah to ensure students gain real-world exposure in safe, supportive environments. Our mission is to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and practical application, empowering students to become confident, capable professionals.

Our culture emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and innovation. We believe in nurturing both our staff and students by fostering an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere. Located in Utah, we are proud to contribute to the state’s reputation for excellence in healthcare education while helping to meet the growing demand for skilled nursing professionals across the region.

The Role and Responsibilities

As a Clinical Instructor, you will serve as both an educator and mentor to students enrolled in our Nurse Assistant program. Your primary responsibility is to supervise and support small groups of students, typically ranging from five to twelve, as they practice essential nursing skills in long-term care settings.

Key responsibilities include:

Student Supervision and Guidance

You will oversee students during their clinical rotations, ensuring they apply classroom knowledge safely and effectively. By observing, correcting, and coaching students, you will help them build the confidence needed to provide compassionate care.

Skill Development Support

Your role involves creating opportunities for students to practice hands-on skills, such as assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and supporting patient mobility. These experiences help students gain the practical competencies required for entry-level healthcare roles.

Quality Assurance in Patient Care

While students are learning, you will also ensure that residents in the care facility continue to receive quality, respectful, and safe assistance. By balancing patient well-being with student learning, you uphold professional and ethical standards at all times.

Flexible Scheduling and Availability

Clinical rotations are held in structured sessions during the academic semester, generally spanning November to December and March to April. Shifts may last between four to eight hours, two to four times a week, including some Saturdays. A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week is required during these periods.

Collaboration with Healthcare Partners

You will work closely with staff at partner long-term care facilities to coordinate schedules, align on care standards, and address student performance. Your collaboration ensures a smooth, professional experience for both students and patients.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Licensure: Must be a licensed nurse with a current, active Utah License to Practice, in good standing with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. This ensures you are legally authorized and professionally recognized to practice within the state.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience as a licensed nurse in long-term care, with a focus on caring for elderly or chronically ill patients. This background provides the foundation for effectively guiding students through complex care scenarios.
  • Certification: A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) credential is required, while a Registered Nurse (RN) credential is preferred. Possessing an RN license offers greater flexibility and demonstrates advanced knowledge in patient care and supervision.

What We’re Looking For

Beyond technical qualifications, we are seeking candidates who bring the following qualities:

  • Passion for Teaching: You should enjoy sharing your knowledge and inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals. Patience, encouragement, and adaptability are key.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Clear, empathetic communication is essential when instructing students and interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Leadership and Accountability: As a mentor, you will be a role model for students, demonstrating professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to quality care.
  • Compassion and Empathy: A genuine desire to support both patients and students will set you apart in this role. Your ability to balance the needs of learners with the dignity of patients is critical.
  • Flexibility: Since clinical schedules vary, we value instructors who can adapt their availability to meet program needs while maintaining high standards of instruction.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers an hourly wage of $25.12, reflecting both the specialized nature of the role and the critical impact you will have on student learning outcomes.

Additional benefits include:

  • The opportunity to mentor and shape future healthcare providers.
  • A flexible work schedule aligned with academic semesters.
  • Professional collaboration with local healthcare facilities.
  • The satisfaction of contributing to both education and patient care.
