Overview
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Account Assistant to support our finance team at our Kurunegala office. This role is ideal for someone with a foundation in accounting who values accuracy, meets deadlines, and is committed to maintaining organized financial records. You will play a key supporting role in our daily financial operations, helping ensure the smooth functioning of our accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Accounting Operations
- Record day-to-day financial transactions using accounting software.
- Assist in processing invoices, expense claims, and payment vouchers.
- Maintain general ledgers and support journal entry preparation.
- Reconcile bank statements with internal records to identify discrepancies.
- Documentation and Filing
- Organize and maintain accounting documents and records in physical and digital formats.
- Ensure that all documents are filed in a timely and systematic manner for auditing and reference purposes.
- Track and archive receipts, payment records, and financial correspondences as needed.
- Payment Handling and Coordination
- Prepare payment instructions for suppliers and verify accuracy of billing.
- Assist in monitoring accounts payable and receivable balances.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to resolve billing queries.
- Monthly and Quarterly Tasks
- Support in preparation of monthly financial reports and balance sheets.
- Assist with the reconciliation of petty cash, advances, and staff reimbursements.
- Help prepare schedules and working papers for internal and external audits.
- Tax and Statutory Compliance
- Support the finance team in preparing tax documentation (such as VAT, NBT, PAYE, EPF, ETF) on time.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records in coordination with HR, when applicable.
- Assist in compiling data for submission to statutory bodies.
- Internal Communication and Team Support
- Communicate clearly with colleagues in finance, operations, and procurement departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure smooth workflow.
- Provide support to senior accountants as requested, including gathering financial data or preparing spreadsheets.
- System and Software Use
- Enter data into accounting systems such as QuickBooks, MYOB, or ERP platforms used by the company.
- Generate standard reports from accounting software for review by senior finance staff.
- Maintain backups of accounting data to ensure business continuity.
Required Qualifications
- G.C.E. Advanced Level qualification in Commerce stream.
- Part qualification in AAT, CA Sri Lanka, CMA, or equivalent professional accounting body is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Familiarity with accounting software or ERP systems is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Preferred Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role, preferably within a corporate or commercial environment.
- Exposure to handling general ledger entries, reconciliations, and invoice processing.
- Experience working with confidential financial data under minimal supervision.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under routine and peak workloads.

Working Environment
This role is based at our Kurunegala office. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional extended hours during financial deadlines or audits. The office environment is structured, with clear reporting lines to the Finance Executive or Senior Accountant.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Finance Executive / Senior Accountant
- Works closely with: Procurement team, Operations team, and HR (for payroll coordination)
